The Catering Institute of Australia (WA) has been originally established across Australia, the Gold Plate Awards program has been conducted in WA for over 40 years. Robin Clarke, Chairperson of the Gold Plate Committee, says, “Started in 1967 by the Wine Service Guild, the Gold Plate Awards program has grown from a small, low key affair into one of the premier events on the Western Australian Hospitality Industry calendar. This program provides professional recognition for quality and enables the CIA to achieve one of its core objectives, to encourage and reward excellence.
In this competition, all entrants are judged and critiqued anonymously to determine finalists for each category. An independent panel of unidentified judges visit and dine with a list of criteria over ten categories with more than 100 individual marks to assess at each restaurant between March and July. Judges book and pay for their meal like any other customer and leave without notice. The restaurant with the highest overall score from any category is awarded the Premier’s Award.
